Stone worktops in Dorking

Dorking is about ten miles east of Guildford along the North Downs, and we fit stone worktops across the town, from Rose Hill and the streets around the High Street to Goodwyns. Quartz, granite, porcelain and marble, for new kitchens or new tops on existing units, cut to measurements taken in the room.

A town on sandstone

Dorking sits on soft sandstone, and over the centuries people dug caves and tunnels into it under several parts of the town. Most are privately owned, but Dorking Museum runs guided tours of the caves beneath South Street. The houses above are as varied as the ground beneath: older buildings in the centre, nineteenth-century streets, and later estates on the edges.

Rose Hill to Goodwyns

Rose Hill, Dorking’s first planned housing, was laid out from 1831 and finished by 1861. The town grew again in the 1920s and 1930s, and council estates such as Goodwyns followed in the late 1950s and 1960s. A mid-century kitchen with good units is a strong candidate for replacement stone worktops; an older house usually needs careful templating around uneven walls.

Box Hill views, bright kitchens

Box Hill, owned by the National Trust, rises just north-east of the town, and plenty of Dorking homes are built to make the most of the Downs. If your kitchen has a wall of glass facing the view, consider porcelain or granite for the worktops in the sunniest spots, since some quartz can discolour after years of strong sun.

From first call to fitted worktop

  1. Price it

Ring 01483 694680 or send the form with rough sizes and a stone in mind, and you get a price back.

  2. Measure it

Once the cabinets are in and level, we come and template the room, recording every wall, corner and opening.

  3. Cut it

Back at the workshop the slab is wet-cut to that template: sink and hob holes, edge profile, any drainer grooves.

  4. Fit it

We install and finish the stone, ready for the sink and hob to be connected. What happens at each stage.
