Upstands and splashbacks in Guildford
Stone upstands and splashbacks finish off a worktop and protect the wall behind it. For Guildford kitchens we cut them from the worktop’s own quartz, granite, porcelain or marble so they match, either alongside new worktops or as a job on their own.
- Cut from the same stone
- No grout lines to clean
- Sockets cut out on site
Upstand, splashback or full height?
An upstand is a low strip, usually 50 to 100 mm tall, that seals the gap where worktop meets wall. A hob splashback is a taller panel behind the cooker, often up to the extractor. A full-height splashback runs from worktop to wall units, or right up to the ceiling, along a whole run. Most kitchens mix the three.
Why stone instead of tiles
A stone or porcelain panel has no grout lines to stain and discolour, so it is much quicker to keep clean behind the sink and hob. Cut from the same stone as the worktop, it also makes the kitchen read as one surface. Sockets, switches and spurs are cut out to fit.
Behind the hob
Behind a gas hob, check the hob maker’s clearance and material guidance. Porcelain and granite cope best with heat. Quartz behind a hob is common but needs the gap the hob manufacturer specifies, because its resin dislikes direct heat. We go through this with you before cutting.
Common questions
Can you fit stone splashbacks to my existing worktops?
Yes, if we can match or complement the stone. We can also fit upstands in a contrasting material.
Do sockets need moving?
Usually not. We cut around them. If a socket sits half on and half off the panel, it may need moving by an electrician first.
Can the window sill match?
Yes. Sills cut from the same stone are a common finishing touch.
